Highlights from Region X
Center for Health Training, has managed the Title X Family Planning Training Program in Region X since 1980. In addition CHT has managed the Region Family Planning Technical Assistance Project since 1999.
Highlights from our training calendar during our fiscal year from July-June each year are as follows:
- We schedule a three-day annual reproductive health conference each year (RH 2010 - April 7-9, 2010) that provides high quality continuing education sessions that are evidence-based and focused on best practices. The intended audience includes licensed clinical providers such as nurse practitioners, physicians, PAs, certified nurse midwives, RNs, as well as community educators, clinical/program managers, and others who work in a reproductive heath setting.
- The Northwest Institute for Community Health Educators (NICHE) was founded in 1985 by CHT, Region X. NICHE is a five-day, residential institute for sexuality, family planning, family life, HIV, and general health educators including public health nurses and teachers. This institute is now offered every other year and the next NICHE is scheduled for July 24-29, 2011, Rainbow Lodge, North Bend, Washington.
- Growing People Potential: An Institute for Managers and Supervisors is a three-day, residential institute and is designed to give clinic managers, clinic supervisors, clinic team leaders, program directors, medical/nursing leads an opportunity to explore new ways to motivate staff using effective communication skills, team building and practical strategies for hiring to retiring. Growing People Potential IV was offered October, 2008 and is offered every other year. The next event will be scheduled for 2010.
- Training and resource materials developed by CHT, Region X include the Title X: Making a Difference video. This 14-minute video (VHS and DVD available) is designed to provide an overview to the Title X program and to orient staff to the premises and principles of working in family planning.
- The Effective Contraceptive Counseling (ECC) Training Clinicians, Educators and Counselors to Help Clients Use Contraception More Effectively is a training curriculum to help providers enhance a client's ability to be more successful with his or her chosen contraceptive method. ECC, using a client-centered, evidence-based approach, will improve client contraceptive utilization as well as insure an improved quality of client services.
- The Contraceptive Fact Sheets were developed by CHT, Region X as a training tool for professionals to increase their knowledge about birth control options when working with their clients.
