Exploring Intimate Partner Violence (IPV) and Sexual Coercion

In This Training
This interactive training will explore the issues of intimate partner violence (IPV), including the definition and prevalence, and red flags for client assessment. This training will also examine sexual coercion and strategies for assessment and effective counseling with family planning clients.
By the end of this session, participants will be able to:
- identify factors that contribute to IPV;
- discuss characteristics of a healthy relationship;
- demonstrate counseling strategies to help clients identify IPV and respond to sexual coercion.
Who Should Attend
Staff who directly interact with clients, including clinicians, nurses, medical assistants, counselors, and educators.
Trainers
LaRhonda Crosby-Johnson is a trainer and educational program consultant who has been working in the field of adolescent pregnancy prevention, health, violence prevention and reproductive health care for over 25 years. She has done state-wide training on intimate partner violence and also provides coaching to health and educational professionals. She is a certified integral (life) coach working with individuals and organizations.
Confirmation

Fees
All fees are per person.
- Title X-funded agencies: $25;
- Private/Other funding: $45.
- CE units are an additional $30.
A $10 late fee will be assessed for each registration received after the deadline of March 16, 2010. Fees can be refunded if cancellation is received 5 working days prior to the session.

Continuing Education
Provider approved by the California Board of Registered Nursing, Provider Number 02604, for 4.4 contact hours. To receive credit, nurses must attend the entire course and present their license number at the workshop. All other applicants will receive certificates of participation.
