OMG... Teen Sexting and Internet Use
Austin, TX
August 31, 2010
12:00 pm - 3:30 pm (lunch provided)
Workshop Summary
Twenty percent of teens admit to participating in "sexting," which, in addition to text flirting and sexual dialogue, can include teens sending or posting nude pictures or videos on the Internet. Texting can also be used as a malicious act, used for bullying and harassment, and in some cases, has legal consequences.
Join us for a discussion of the implications of texting and Internet use on sexual and reproductive health, and rather than demonize technology, parents, providers, and concerned adults can learn to use this opportunity to approach the topic of sexuality with the teens in their lives or develop innovative strategies for reaching youth with the same tools they covet.
