About the Conference

The 4th annual Texas Department of State Health Services (DSHS) Clinical Conference is the premier event for Texas clinicians in Family Planning, Breast & Cervical Cancer Services, and Primary Health Care. You will have opportunities to learn about new research from expert presenters and update your clinical practice. This 2-day conference will provide high quality continuing education (CNE and CME) and clinical updates that are evidence-based and focused on best practices. In addition, the pre-conference practica on Wednesday, May 5th will give attendees a chance to learn and practice new skills and enhance abilities. Participants will find this conference to be an excellent opportunity to update their knowledge, gain and refine skills, and network with colleagues from around the state and our region.

Audience

This conference is specifically designed for physicians, physician assistants, advanced practice nurses, and nurses from Texas DSHS-funded Family Planning, Breast & Cervical Cancer Services, and Primary Health Care contractors. Others will be accepted on a space-available basis.

Conference Registration Fee Schedule -

Registration fees automatically include Nursing Contact Hours.

  • $100: EARLY BIRD: (on or before March 23, 2010)
  • $110: Regular (March 24 - April 6, 2010)
  • $130: Late (April 7 - April 20, 2010)
  • $150: Space available basis only (After April 21)
  • $200: Non-Title V, X, XX
  • $225: On-site registration (space-permitting)

*Registration fee schedule only applies to TX DSHS contractors and, space permitting, Title X/BCCS contractors in NM,OK, LA, AR.
$200 for all others, regardless of date of registration (onsite registration not available).

Practicum #1: 12:30 - 3:30 pm
Practicum #2: 4:00 - 7:00 pm

Essential Male Exam Skills

Introductory/refresher course on the main elements of history taking and genitor-urinary exams for male clients, special issues, and hands-on practice doing the male exams

Clinical Breast Exams

Current recommendations and techniques for conducting a clinical breast exam, discussion, and hands-on practice doing CBE.

Pre-conference Practica Registration Fees
  • $20 per practicum for TX DSHS contractors and, space permitting, Title X/BCCS contractors in NM, OK, LA, AR
  • $45 per practicum for all others
  • $10 late fee per practicum for all registrations received after April 20, 2010

Continuing Education

CNE

Center for Health Training is an approved provider of continuing nursing education by the Washington State Nurses Association, an accredited approver by the American Nurses Credentialing Center’s Commission on Accreditation.

For successful completion of CNE activities, and in order to receive full contact-hour credit for each session, you must be registered for this activity, sign the Verification of Attendance Form for each session and the sign in sheet at the registration desk; be present no later than five (5) minutes after starting time of each session; remain until the scheduled ending time of each session; and complete and submit the evaluation form(s) before you leave at the conclusion of each session and at the end of the conference.

Upon successful completion of the entire activity, a maximum of 15.5 nursing Contact Hours will be awarded.

CMEs

CMEs are available for $45. Center for Health Training designates this educational activity for a maximum of 15.6 AMA PRA Category 1 Credit(s)™. Physicians should claim credit commensurate with the extent of their participation in the activity. This activity has been planned and implemented in accordance with the Institute of Medical Quality and the California Medical Association’s CME Accreditation Standards (IMQ/CMA). CHT is accredited by IMQ/CMA for issuing AMA PRA Category 1 Credit(s)™ for physicians. The conference agenda includes content which satisfies 1.0 hour of medical ethics and/or professional responsibility education for Texas physicians.
